About Certas Energy

At Certas Energy we’re keen to take a lead in the industry. Health and safety is paramount to our business ethos – it is fundamental to good business performance, and integral to long-term business success.

Our diverse customer base includes rural residential customers, small, medium and large businesses, agricultural businesses and family farms. In addition, we have specialist sector teams for marine, fuel retailing and lubricant customers. For the fuel retail sector, we have supply agreements to 800 retail forecourts, including 400 Gulf-branded sites. We are a major supplier of transport fuel through our branded fuel cards business. In addition we offer lubricant products to all commercial sectors and offer other complementary services, including boiler servicing and maintenance, tanks, additives and specialist fuels.

Our Customer Service Agents love speaking to our customers. They’re here to help you take the hassle out of heating oil and can set you up with everything from handy online services, to different ways to manage and pay for your fuel, including our automatic fuel top up service, plus much more.

Whenever you’re ready to top up, our local delivery drivers, like David, are on your doorstep. Whether you want our premium, more efficient fuel, Glowmax, or our standard kerosene. They’ll even close the gate behind them.

Steve Little

Managing Director

Steve joined Certas Energy in April 2017 as Financial Director and became our Managing Director in July 2022.

Prior to his role at Certas Energy, Steve has spent 25 years working in a variety of businesses and industries. He started his career at Arthur Andersen as a trainee accountant and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the firm. Post qualification, Steve worked for General Electric in a variety of roles before joining Houghton International as their European Financial Director. Whilst at Houghton Steve took on Managing Director responsibility for Poland and South Africa, broadening his commercial skills and heightening his interest in roles outside of the finance function.

Steve also holds a Batchelor of Science in Chemistry from Leeds university.

Born in Carlisle, Cumbria, Steve now lives in the Manchester area and has been married for nearly 20 years.  Steve has three school age children and more pets than he would ideally like.

In his spare time, Steve enjoys all sports, but particularly football, running and cycling. He also enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Steve is particularly passionate about promoting equality and fairness and strongly believes that every individual should have access to the same opportunities and be judged on their own merits.

As Managing Director, Steve is excited to be leading the company through our own sustainability journey whilst supporting our customers on their energy transition.  He is committed to ensuring that Certas Energy will provide long term and fulfilling employment to our outstanding workforce.

Eileen Brotherton

Finance Director

Eileen is ACCA qualified and joined Certas Energy in July 2018 as Financial Business Partner for Operations becoming Finance Director for Energy Solutions and now Certas Energy Finance Director.

Prior to Certas Energy, Eileen spent 11 years at GE Capital in a number of different financial roles: Pricing, FPA, TCO and Finance Director. This was followed by 7 years at Houghton Plc as Pricing Leader, UK Finance Director then European Finance Director.

Eileen is from a large Irish family and originally from Birmingham.  She is an avid Aston Villa supporter and also enjoys playing and watching tennis.  Eileen lives with her partner and has two children.

Along with balancing the needs of a busy and demanding role, Eileen has spent time raising funds for and taking part in initiatives for the teenage mental health charity Young-minds.

Paul Williams

Managing Director Certas Energy Solutions

Paul is the Director of the South with overall responsibility for the South East, South West and Wales regions and also our National Accounts and Heating Services and Fuel Cards.

Paul has worked in the oil industry for over 25 years, in a variety of distributors based in the North West. Paul was a Director at Carlton Fuels from 2000, and became part of Certas Energy through its acquisition in 2006.

Richard Billington

Managing Director Roadside Services

Richard Is the Managing Director of our Roadside Services Division within Certas Energy, This covers Retail, Fuelcards and SNAP business units. 

Previously Richard was Regional Director for Certas Energy in the South of England and originally joined the company as part of the Butler Fuels acquisition in 2013.

Working in a variety of roles over the past 23 years, Richard began his working life in retail and moved through to various Senior Management positions for both Total Oil and Certas Energy. In his spare time Richard is the Chair of Governors at his local village school.

Steve Mayo

Managing Director European Lubricants

Steve joined Certas Energy in June 2021 as Managing Director of Certas Energy European Lubricants. Prior to joining Certas Energy, Steve worked for global industrial lubricants business Quaker Houghton for 16 years as Regional Director for Northern Europe and was also Commercial Director for a specialty chemicals and lubricants business with manufacturing plants in UK, USA, India and China.

Steve’s career in lubricants stretches across more than 35 years and includes roles in various functional areas including: manufacturing & operations, procurement, technical, marketing and sales.

Steve has four children and in his spare time coaches a junior football team and enjoys walking around the local countryside near his home.

Angus Blundell

Domestic & Corporate Affairs Director

Angus joined Certas Energy in September 2016.

Prior to Certas Energy, Angus has worked in several diverse marketing roles both in the UK and abroad with a career spanning across 25 years. He holds a marketing degree and is Chartered Institute of Marketing qualified. 

Angus heads up our consumer energy solutions division including our domestic heating oil business, heating services and energy transition for the residential market. He also leads Corporate Affairs for Certas Energy as a whole. 

Angus is married with two young children and enjoys helping with many sporting clubs that his two sons are involved in, along with enjoying music and DIY.

Wilma Kelly

HSE Director

Wilma joined Certas Energy in 2019 as HSE Director and leads our health, safety, and environmental function. Prior to working for Certas Energy, Wilma held a range of executive and non-executive roles in national and international energy, infrastructure, and utility organisations such as Scottish Power, Iberdrola SA and Board Director for Scottish Canals.

Wilma is also Vice President of Tank Storage Association, an industry-based organisation supporting members engaged in bulk fuel and energy infrastructure and championing Safety, Health, Environmental and Technical matters. 

Having a strong background in Environmental Social Governance (ESG), Wilma also leads our ESG Committee. She is passionate about Diversity and Inclusion and sees it as an important strategic priority. She is a member of Women Engineering Society and believes it is important to lead by example and ensure we are making a difference both now and for future generations.

Nathan Broad

IT Director

Nathan joined Certas Energy in 2018 as IT Director.

Prior to joining Certas Energy, Nathan worked for 10 years in the food manufacturing industry, 10 years in Financial Services (transportation rent/lease) both in IT and Quality  roles, 5 years in industrial lubricants manufacturing at Houghton International in the capacity of European IT Director as well as 2 years in clinical trials for Synexus as Group IT Director.  In addition, he has also previously taken voluntary roles as a governor at a sixth form college and as the Chairman of the Trustees for a company pension scheme.

At Certas Energy, Nathan is proud to be leading a team that manages all aspects of IT, driving innovation and change along with efficiency and effectiveness throughout the business.

Nathan has been married for over 20 years and has two grown up children.  He is interested in ergo rowing and martial arts, as well as plenty of walking with his labradoodle, Milo.

Bryan Main

European Sourcing Director

Bryan is a qualified accountant with 15 years’ experience in the energy industry.  Bryan’s journey with Certas Energy began when Brogan Fuels was acquired in 2009. 

Bryan is a qualified accountant and has held various roles within the business during his tenure.  Bryan has had numerous senior roles within the business teams at Certas Energy, including General Sales Manager, European Lubricants Finance Director, before joining the Leadership Team as European Supplies Director in 2022.

Prior to joining Certas Energy, Bryan worked within the Banking and Financial Services sector.

Bryan is family orientated but in his spare time pursues his passion for football, rugby and golf.

Stephanie Beat

Legal and Compliance Director

Stephanie joined Certas Energy in June 2020 as Head of Legal and Compliance.

She has spent over 16 years as an in house lawyer and holds an LLB in Law (University of Sheffield) and LPC (Chester College of Law) and completed her legal training with law firm Pinsent Masons in Leeds before progressing as a commercial lawyer with Eversheds in Manchester.

Stephanie spent 13 years supporting and leading legal and compliance functions in retail at N Brown Group Plc and critical services sectors  at JLA Limited, developing specialisms in commercial contracts, consumer law, data protection, consumer credit, mergers and acquisitions and competition law.

Within Certas Energy, Stephanie heads up the legal and compliance team and is delighted to be part of a leadership team demonstrating that compliance is at the heart of Certas Energy’s business and commercial strategy.

Stephanie is passionate about developing junior team members and their personal and professional growth.  She is a member of the Lawyers for Net Zero initiative, working with likeminded General Counsels and Heads of Legal across a variety of industries to better lead, champion and enable legitimate net zero for their organisations.

Mark Deeney

Renewable Energy Director

Mark currently lives in Liverpool and is originally from Donegal in the Northwest of Ireland. He has been in the UK for over 15 years, and has worked within the construction and renewable energy sector for over 20 years across several commercial and operational roles.

Prior to Certas Energy, Mark worked in renewable manufacturing across the UK and Ireland, working for Glen Dimplex Heating & Ventilation. 

Mark previously lead the Renewables division in Glen Dimplex Heating & Ventilation, which provided low carbon solutions within the commercial and domestic sectors across the UK. He is passionate about energy transition and helping the UK achieve its carbon reduction targets.

Mark is married with no children, enjoy the outdoors, and supporting Donegal GAA and the Irish rugby team, along with music and travelling.
