Customer Advice for Oil-Heated Households in Scotland

What’s happening?

The Scottish Government has announced further details of its Emergency Heating Oil Scheme, designed to support households facing rising heating costs.

From 1 April 2026, eligible households will be able to apply for £300 towards their heating bills.

The scheme will support households using both heating oil and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Payments will be made directly to suppliers where possible, helping qualifying households to place an order for fuel.

The scheme will be administered by Advice Direct Scotland and is expected to run for up to six months, with two opportunities to apply during that period.

Who is eligible?

The scheme is primarily aimed at:
– Low-income households.
– Those receiving means-tested benefits.

Applications may also be open to households who:
– Have unavoidable additional heating needs.
– Are at risk of self-rationing fuel.
– Include individuals with disabilities or other vulnerabilities
