Certas Energy earns Renewable Fuel Supplier status for its HVO fuel

Certas Energy has strengthened its position as a transparent and trusted energy transition partner for transport businesses after becoming a Renewable Fuel Supplier under the Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme (RFAS).

Certas Energy’s claims of GHG emission savings and provenance of raw material feedstocks for its Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO renewable diesel fuel) are now verified under the RFAS scheme. HVO fuel is a drop-in renewable diesel that offers a cleaner way to fuel commercial on and off-road fleets, instantly cutting up to 90% of a business’ greenhouse gas emissions with no engine modifications required.

This latest approval allows Certas Energy to produce its own Renewable Fuel Declarations for HVO fuel, underwritten by the Zemo Partnership, which guarantees that fleet operators are purchasing bulk supplies of sustainable low carbon fuels.

The Zemo Partnership, which Certas Energy has been a member of since 2022, is an independent, non-profit organisation working with the government and members to help accelerate transport to zero emissions. It manages the RFAS scheme, which analyses the complete renewable fuel supply chain from feedstock cultivation or waste raw material collection, production and distribution of the final product to the customer.

Neil Ryding, Senior Technical Consultant at Certas Energy, said: “At Certas Energy, ESG objectives are the main drivers in our strategy and our roadmap for the coming years will see renewable technologies enhance our existing fossil fuel business. Being members of the Zemo Partnership and having the RFAS approval further underlines our commitment to reducing GHG emissions and helping our customers to navigate the new energy mix.

“Approval as a Renewable Fuel Supplier guarantees that the fuels and fuel feedstocks that we source – and they use – have the best available provenance in terms of sustainability, which, in turn, gives our customers confidence that their own decarbonisation achievements can be substantiated.”

As a Renewable Fuel Supplier under RFAS, Certas Energy will undergo continuous compliance monitoring, including an annual audit.

Joining the scheme is one of many measures that Certas Energy is taking to reassure customers that the HVO fuel it supplies is ethically sourced, ecologically responsible, and exclusively manufactured from primary waste sources. The company only partners with International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) certified HVO fuel suppliers, each one having a fully validated and auditable supply chain, demonstrating that its HVO fuel meets the highest auditable product standards possible.

As well as fuelling its own fleet with the drop-in renewable fuel, Certas Energy now offers nationwide delivery of HVO and the diesel alternative is also available at selected Certas Energy refuelling sites – making it the first fuel company in the UK to offer HVO fuel to HGV fuel card users at the pump.
