REDUCE HARMFUL EMISSIONS

What is AdBlue?

AUS 32, ISO 22241 NOx reduction agent, or AdBlue as it is commonly known, reduces harmful nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines. It is injected into the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system where it converts toxic nitrogen oxide into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.

Under Government legislation, all diesel cars and vehicles must now reduce their diesel exhaust emissions. Adblue, a clear, non-toxic liquid makes this easy and effective for small and large businesses. More information on how AdBlue works for the environment and for your fleet can be found in our blog ‘What is Adblue’.

The technical name for AdBlue is AUS32. It is 1/3 aqueous urea solution and 2/3 deionized water. Before a vehicle’s exhaust can expel any nitrogen oxide into the air, AdBlue is sprayed onto these harmful gases through the SCR system, which then turns them into harmless emissions. Whilst often referred to as a diesel fuel additive, AdBlue is actually added to the exhaust fumes and not the diesel itself, meaning it is not technically an additive.

AdBlue is used to make sure diesel fuelled cars and heavy vehicles are compliant with environmental standards. Adding AdBlue to your SCR system helps maintain legal emission limits. You can face large fines if your vehicle does not adhere to these regulations. If your business uses heavy goods or industrial vehicles like tractors, trucks or buses, you will need to use AdBlue to negate the harmful effects of Nitrogen Oxide emissions.

With the haulage industry under increasing pressure to lower their carbon output, AdBlue is a simple and effective solution. By easily adding AdBlue to the AdBlue tank in your vehicle, nitrogen oxide becomes a harmless vapour of nitrogen and water. This means your business will fall in line with Government regulations regarding environmental output and align you with proactive environmental initiatives.

AdBlue lasts for quite a while, but its lifespan depends on usage. AdBlue has a fairly low consumption rate compared to diesel. As it is added to the exhaust fumes and not the diesel itself, it can be expected to last much longer than the actual diesel. An average sized car can travel approximately 620 miles on just one litre of AdBlue. For a family car, this would likely suffice until the next service. For heavy vehicles, AdBlue comes in much larger quantities to ensure you don’t run out. A tractor will obviously use more than a company car. To get a clearer understanding of how much AdBlue you need, speak to a member of the Certas Energy team.

Whilst Adblue is non-hazardous, non-flammable and completely safe to store, it is corrosive. It can dissolve certain materials that are not AdBlue proof and should only be used with Adblue compliant systems. AdBlue works by triggering a chemical reaction with ammonia when placed into a vehicle’s SCR system and so should only be used safely. To ensure you get the best AdBlue product and comply with safety standards, you should only purchase AdBlue from a trusted VDA licenced partner like Certas Energy.

Whilst there may be other products with the same chemical make-up as AdBlue, AdBlue is a stand-alone product. AdBlue is also known as AUS32, a diesel fuel additive. There are other diesel exhaust fluids available but at Certas Energy we believe AdBlue is the best. AdBlue conforms to Euro V and VI emissions standards meaning your fleet, your business and your environmental impact will always be in line with Government legislation.

AdBlue should only be purchased from a trusted and certified AdBlue supplier, we only supply ISO 22241 compliant AdBlue products. We offer a range of size and delivery options from jerry cans to bulk deliveries and can also help with accessories. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements so we can select the right AdBlue plan for you.

The cost of AdBlue can vary and every business and diesel additive requirement will be different. We supply AdBlue in cans, barrels, IPCs, and, of course, bulk deliveries. Certas Energy will work with you to understand your business and supply the right amount of Adblue for your needs.
