Yesterday, we heard from Depot Operations Supervisor, Glynn, who talked about the impact driver apprentices have on their busy depot. If you missed the article, you can revisit it here. Today we meet Driver Scott.
Scott joined Certas Energy in Jan 2020 and is now fully qualified, hear what he has to say about his experience:
“I enjoyed the whole concept of the apprenticeship program from learning to drive a truck to the more technical stuff like ADR training and getting passed off in the terminal which was quite daunting at first.
On joining Certas Energy, we were given an apprenticeship folder with various modules which needed to be completed and signed off. I also spent a lot of time with the driver trainers Darren and Mark learning the job first-hand whilst getting familiar with the company’s procedures and expectations.
I spent nine months with the two driver trainers and other members of staff learning the job and getting to know different meter systems, tank sizes, grades, loading procedures and driving techniques. It was interesting to see how different people worked and definitely beneficial to myself as a new driver. Once I had completed all the relevant training I needed, and my trainers Darren and Mark has signed-off my training, I did my final assessment and received a distinction in my apprenticeship.
I would definitely recommend taking an apprenticeship as it’s a great way to learn on the job whilst getting advice from fellow colleagues and driver trainers.
The training I received was really good and I was allowed plenty of time to take things in and learn at a steady pace”.
