Work Commences On New Port Of Liverpool Refuelling Station

Work has commenced on a new 24hr HGV refuelling station at Peel Ports Liverpool.

The occasion was marked with a ground-breaking event attended by senior representatives of Peel Ports Group and Certas Energy, who respectively own and will operate the new facility.

The project is moving forward at a lightning fast pace, with planning permission being granted just two weeks ago.

Peel Ports Liverpool is one of the largest, busiest and most diverse ports in the UK. Its current traffic and anticipated growth through investment make it the perfect location for the new HGV refuelling site.

Once completed in early 2017, the new state-of-the-art facility will allow up to 8 HGVs to refuel simultaneously. High speed pumps combined with advanced data collection, fuel monitoring equipment and filtration systems will ensure the best service offering at all times. The port-centric location will provide a convenient place for drivers to refuel, eliminating unnecessary journeys with the expectation that it will indirectly reduce road congestion as a result.

Located at the main entrance to the Royal Seaforth Container Terminal and adjacent to the new Liverpool2 deep-water container terminal, which is part of Peel Ports’ £750 million investment programme across the North West, the site will increase convenience for current port users as there will be no need for drivers to divert off route to refuel. They can refuel on entering or leaving the port, saving time as they proceed to their onward destination.

Paul Williams, Director at Certas Energy attending the ground-breaking ceremony commented, “We’re extremely pleased to start the building and construction works.   In line with our strategy to develop a national network of refuelling locations, this is another major milestone in reaching our goal. For Certas Energy this is ‘flagship’ development designed specifically to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding port. The continued development of the Port of Liverpool meant it was an easy decision to enter into partnership with Peel Ports Group.”

David Huck, Port Director Mersey, Peel Ports Group said “I’m extremely proud of our team who have helped to turn this project from concept to construction stage in an extremely short space of time. Over time we will see more investments such as this throughout the region as more and more companies tap into the commercial opportunities available through the increased traffic from our new Liverpool2 Container Terminal”
