As part of our Hands in the Community initiative, the Certas Energy Fuel Cards team dedicated their time to supporting local charity, Friends of Victoria Park. The team rolled up their sleeves to neaten up overgrown trees along the park paths, remove thistles and weeds from rose beds and prepare the ground for new plants.

By working with Neighbourly, an award-winning giving platform, we connect with volunteering and giving opportunities that directly impact social issues.
Friends of Victoria Park: Improving the Park
Based in Stretford, Friends of Victoria Park was originally started by a group of residents who loved the park and wanted to plan improvements and community events. It has now grown into a registered charity that works with the council to ensure the park and community’s best interests are fought and cared for.
The Certas Energy Fuel Cards team chose to donate their time and energy to Friends of Victoria Park as they are close by to the team’s office and provide a great service to the local community by keeping the green space a place for everyone to enjoy.
Investing in the Community
Friends of Victoria Park don’t just stop at park improvements. They have cemented themselves in the community by staging events and working with local groups and schools to carry out park-based projects.
Most recently, they fundraised and worked with the council to raise money to reinstate their community building after it became unsafe and was demolished in 2019. They successfully gained enough funding to rebuild, and it now hosts a tea room and plenty of indoor groups and events.
How the Certas Energy Fuel Cards Team Charity Day Went
The Certas Energy Fuel Cards team got to work helping Friends of Victoria Park by doing some much-needed gardening to tidy up the communal park areas. The main focus was to remove thistles and weeds from rose beds, preparing them for some fresh new plants that will spring up over the next couple of months. The team also cleared the pathways that had overgrown trees, making the park more accessible.
