Having started at Certas Energy as a HR Apprentice, Chris Ellison is now Employee Relations Advisor:
“Since completing my level 3 apprenticeship in Human Resources I have been promoted to an Employee Relations Advisor. I now support Certas Energy’s line managers on many employee related issues, including disciplinary and grievance matters. It has been a fun and challenging time for me and the experience and mentorship I am receiving is incredibly valuable. I have already advised on a vast amount of cases.
The training I have received from my manager, Raj and the HR business partners has been in depth and will serve me well later down the line. I liaise with our out sourced legal advisors Weightmans and my contact their Lois has built up my knowledge in the area of employment law and my letter writing skills have greatly improved. Thank you Lois!!
As my role is reactionary I have not really noticed any difference to the way I work. I speak to many stakeholders on the phone and provide sound and robust HR advice. I would say due to the pandemic COVID-19 queries are coming in thick and fast so I made sure I am up to date with NHS advice and government legislation.
Currently, I am studying for my Level 5 in Human Resources Management and I am into my third module. What I have really enjoyed learning is the importance of succession and talent planning in the business. It is important to highlight any skill gaps and to manage talent in the business for any company to succeed.
