I joined Certas Energy just over a year ago and am responsible for leading the shared services team. We are the central hub of the people function and provide support and guidance to certas energy’s 2500+ population.  Three of my team members are on HR related apprenticeships across levels 3 and 5.

Working in the shared services team is a fast-paced environment and involves dealing with multiple and often complex queries. My team members who are undertaking apprenticeships are not only developing their practical hands-on experience within the people function but the underpinning theory and knowledge of HR operations. They consistently make valuable contributions to improving our processes and the service offered to the business, and they also support new team members who join the shared services team, sharing their knowledge and experience to help new starts embed into the role.

Having team members on an apprenticeship is a commitment. As a people manager, you need to be prepared to provide support and guidance and help them progress not only in their role but in their studies but supporting team members in their career and learning journey through an apprenticeship can add real value to your team and makes learning and self-development part of your team’s culture.
