What type of oil tank do I need for domestic use?
There are several different types and sizes of domestic heating oil tanks. You can choose between single-skin oil tanks, double-skinned, and bunded tanks. It’s worth checking you’re your local regulations, as these can vary between countries. For example, domestic homes in Wales which own a tank with a capacity of 200 litres or over require a double-skin (110% bunded).
Depending on your requirements, you might need a specific type of tank. For instance, you cannot use a single skin tank to store over 2,500 litres. In this case, you’d need a 2,500-litre bunded heating oil tank with both an inner tank and an outer tank to protect against leaks.
You also have a choice of material, from plastic oil tanks to steel. However, plastic is usually the most common. Each of these alternatives has features that cater to specific circumstances, so it’s essential to consult a professional when choosing a new domestic oil tank.
