We’re delighted to announce that Certas Energy has won in the Environmental Innovation category at this year’s prestigious Plantworx Innovation Awards.
Held annually, the Plantworx Innovation Awards celebrate the companies, products and services that have made a real difference in the construction equipment industry. The Environmental Innovation Award category recognises the entry judged to be most beneficial in terms of reducing the environmental impact of construction activities.
Certas Energy was recognised for the use of GTL Fuel and innovative fuel management solutions by Jackson Civil Engineering and the Environment Agency during development of the Perry Barr and Witton Flood Risk Management Scheme.
Exclusively supplied in the UK by Certas Energy, GTL Fuel is a cleaner-burning diesel alternative that can minimise the environmental impact of construction operations. As a drop-in solution, the fuel can be used in HDD engines to immediately improve air quality without the need for modifications to existing equipment.
As the Perry Barr and Witton Flood Risk Management Scheme site is within a nature reserve and close to a local school, the fuel’s wider emission, environmental and performance benefits aimed to reduce impact of air and noise pollution on the local community, operatives and wildlife.
GTL Fuel has been proven to reduce harmful emissions of nitrogen oxides by up to 25%, particulate matter by up to 90% and carbon monoxide by up to 28%. The fuel is also odourless and can cut noise levels in some engines by 3-5 decibels for the benefit of the workforce and local community. Classified as non-toxic and readily biodegradable, GTL Fuel also poses fewer environmental hazards when working near watercourses and diverse ecosystems.
Certas Energy further partnered with Jackson Civil Engineering to achieve additional environmental and efficiency improvements through the supply of a 17,000-litre capacity self-managed fuel storage tank . As well as removing fuel level maintenance safety risks for operatives, the upgrade enabled Jackson Civil Engineering to further reduce emissions through fewer site deliveries and reduced lorry movements throughout the nature reserve.
